What makes you a dad…

Ok, I am a father of three wonderful kids; and one in the way…Do I fall into the category of a “dad”?? You see there is a difference between being a father and a dad…What is the difference??

Anyone can be a father…all you have to do, is find a woman & make a child, or join a woman with her kid(s)…However, anyone cannot be a dad…Why?? Simple, to be a dad it takes the following recipe: Love + Dedication + Patience +Willingness + Commitment = Dad…

A father doesn’t have the recipe, only dads have it…so are you a father or dad??

Let me break this recipe further, so you can understand the difference between a father and a dad…

Love – A dad has to be able to love his kid(s) and wife no matter what…Let me explain; a child is going to grow to become a man/woman, in the process of that development they are going to commit mistakes or make decisions, (some mistakes and/or decisions are going to be harder to swallow than others) no matter what the child does, says, or commits as a dad you always love them…You may live with the mother of your child or not; even if you don’t you still hold some kind of love towards her for giving you that child (it may not be the same love that you felt the first day you met)… If you live with the mother of the child, and still in love (like I am); you teach your child that “love” is 1 part of success…

Dedication – A dad has to be dedicated to see this from the start to the end; a dad doesn’t quit halfway…Life with kids is wonderful; but hard…It takes a “dad” to overcome every obstacle a child will throw his way, and stick it thru to the end…

Patience – A dad knows how to be patient with his kid(s)…Anyone that is a parent, understand the word “Patience” (LOL)…In order to “love” your child when he/she commits a mistake; you must have patience…Patience is a virtue; and if you don’t have it now, you will have it when you become a “parent”, trust me…

Willingness – A dad is willing to see past his kid(s) mistake, errors, or decisions; and love them no matter what…

Commitment – A dad is committed to be the best dad in the good times, bad times, to see the outcome of each and every one of his kids life, to handle every situation, problem, or storm and not “run” away from the child(s) life…

“Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a dad.” ~Anne Geddes

So remember anyone can be a father; but only a “few” are dad…Are you a father or dad??
